Family Owned Restaurant

The Grill on Main is a restaurant in rural Ohio, owned and operated by my parents for over 20 years. It’s known for its welcoming atmosphere and delicious meals. The restaurant previously had a website, but its design and content were outdated.

Problem

The old website was not effectively showcasing the restaurant’s offerings, and the outdated design did not reflect the quality of the dining experience. The challenge was to create a modern, functional website that would improve user experience.

Process

I hand-coded the new website from scratch using VSCode. I ensured that the layout was user-friendly and showcased the menu prominently. To enhance SEO, I uploaded the menu in HTML format rather than as an image, allowing search engines to index the content effectively. Throughout the development process, I prioritized both functionality and aesthetic appeal to create an inviting online presence.

Results

The new website is more functional and visually appealing than the previous version, featuring a dark wood theme that complements the restaurant’s dimly lit interior. While I don’t have specific data on user engagement or traffic, I expect that the updated design has positively impacted customers’ perceptions of the restaurant.
